InfoThis hand is between Daniel Negreanu and Ryan McClean in the 2006 World Series of Poker Tournament. It's still pretty early in the tournament so this isn't very important do or die hand. Pre FlopAlright, let's get into it. So the cards are dealt and McClean has pocket aces and is feeling good. Negreanu on the other hand has a respectable Queen 10 offsuit. Definitely, a hand that can see some action. McClean raises to 9 thousand and Negreanu Calls the 6 Thousand. This is exactly how I would play it if I was in McClean's position he knows he has the best hand so raising and increasing the pot size is in his best interest. FlopThe Flop is 5 4 queen Daniel pairs his queens which could be bad for him he could think he is ahead here. This is a decent flop for McClean he knows that he is most likely up here only losing to a pair of 5's 4's and queen's which isn't likely. McClean bets a solid 12k nothing to high nothing to big a nice sweet spot to help try and keep his hand disguised. But during the flop Negreanu makes the comment, "I think he has got Aces". I would have lost it McClean does a very good job of showing no emotion and not giving anything away but that is absolutely incredible that Negreanu was able to put him onto a hand so fast let alone be right about it. TurnThe Turn card is a 2 of clubs which is very bad for Negreanu because McClean picks up a straight draw. They both check the turn and Negreanu pokes at McClean saying, "You have aces why check here you pick up an additional straight draw". again really incredible that he put him on that exact hand. Most of the time when playing poker you put your opponents on a range of hands not just a singular hand. RiverThe river card is a 5 of diamonds. Negreanu is drawing dead now. They both check and close out the hand. They both played the hand really well only a few things I would have done differently. AftermathNegreanu's instincts save him big time in this hand. Most players when they see they have the top pair on the flop start to get excited and feel in control Negreanu kept cool and realized the bet's McClean was making were fishy and put him on the right hand and steered clear of this hand. The only thing I would have done differently If I was McClean was bet the turn. He calls your aces I would bet and see if I can get any more money out of my hand instead of just going check check. Next BlogIn next weeks blog we are gonna take a look at another hand I hope this blog helped you understand how important it is to really feel out your opponents and try and put your opponents on a range of hands.
